He admitted to taking androstenedione which is an over the counter muscle enhancement product. The issue is that this substance is banned from the NFL and the IOC (Olympics), the thing that damned him was the fact that when asked if he had taken steroids during his career he stated that (paraphrasing here) that he was going to leave the past in the past.....as far as actual anabolic steroid usage McGwire has not commented on whether he has or not. As far as Barry Bonds goes, to me it just seems odd from his time in Pittsburgh and the couple years that he was in San Francisco that he was this really thin guy and then in 2001 he explodes the home run record and sets the mark at 73 (he was 36) which was 3 years (1998) after McGwire set the record at 70....some of Bonds teammates during the 1999 season that Bonds had gotten noticeably bigger and called him the Incredible Hulk....which it seems very odd at the age of 35 that Barry Bonds hit a "growth spurt" , if you look at video of him from the 1997/1998 seasons and then you look at video of him from the 1999/2000 seasons it almost looks like you are looking at 2 different people. Explain how that happened without the use of steroids and you have your answer. Also body building (without the use of supplements, etc) will not increase the size of ones cranium.
